About Overland Park Golf: St. Andrews and Sykes/Lady
The City of Overland Park owns and operates two golf facilities. St. Andrews Golf Club is an 18-hole course at 11099 West 135th Street, which the city calls the most popular 18-hole course in the metro. Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Club at 12501 Quivira Road has 27 regulation holes, the South, North and West nines, plus a nine-hole par-3 course. The story of how the city got into golf is worth knowing: council members Ben Sykes and Wendell Lady pushed the idea in the late 1960s, and the vote to buy the first parcel passed by a single vote. The Quivira Road course opened in 1971.
Both facilities are fully public with online tee times, five sets of tees to suit any skill level, and a range of passes: a Par 3 Unlimited Pass, a Patron Card that discounts rounds, and twilight and super twilight rates. They are the practical answer for Overland Park families who want to play regularly without joining a private club, and for relocating households who have not yet decided whether the country club route makes sense. If you are house-hunting, these two courses tell you a lot about the middle of Overland Park. St. Andrews sits at 135th and Antioch, surrounded by 1990s and 2000s Blue Valley neighborhoods where a lot of my buyers end up. Sykes/Lady at 125th and Quivira is in an older, established area in Blue Valley and Olathe school territory depending on the block. Neither has private club homes backing to it in the Hallbrook sense, but plenty of streets border the fairways, so the usual questions about errant balls and easements still apply.
How membership works
No membership is required at either course; both are public and city-owned. Overland Park sells a Par 3 Unlimited Pass for the nine-hole par-3 course at Sykes/Lady, a Patron Card that reduces green fees, and twilight and super twilight rate tiers. Current pricing is on the golfop.com site and changes seasonally, so check it there rather than relying on any number here. There is no residency requirement, though city programs sometimes offer resident rates. If you want the country club experience, these are not it; if you want good, affordable golf a few minutes from home, they are exactly it.
