Homestead Country Club

Homestead Country Club is not a golf club, and I want to say that up front because the name confuses people. It began in 1952 when ten acres were donated for a neighborhood recreation club in a quiet corner of Prairie Village, and the clubhouse opened in 1953. What you get is a large outdoor pool with a poolside bar and pavilion, indoor and outdoor tennis, indoor and outdoor pickleball, a fitness center and dining. It is at 4100 Homestead Court, tucked into the residential streets south of 75th Street, and it functions as the neighborhood's summer living room.

The club had a rough stretch: it filed for bankruptcy in 2014 and sold part of its land to a residential developer to stay afloat. In late 2017 Hulsing Enterprises, a family company that operates racquet clubs elsewhere, bought it and reinvested. Between 2018 and 2022 the club renovated the clubhouse, put a permanent building over four tennis courts, expanded the fitness offering and added six pickleball courts, two of them enclosed. It is now a private, family-oriented racquet, swim and fitness club under stable ownership.

For a Prairie Village buyer this is a practical alternative to a golf club. If nobody in your house plays golf, a Homestead membership gets you the pool, tennis and a social calendar for a fraction of what a full golf membership at the Mission Hills clubs costs, and it is walkable or bikeable from much of Prairie Village. Membership is not tied to any street or subdivision. Ask the club about current categories, initiation and monthly dues; those are not published, and the structure has changed under the new ownership.
