Country Club of Leawood (Leawood South)

The Country Club of Leawood opened in 1968 as Leawood South Country Club, and most locals still use the old name. It sits at 12700 Overbrook Road, between 123rd and 135th on the east side of Leawood, which puts it a mile south of Hallbrook and squarely in the middle of the Leawood neighborhoods built in the 1970s through 1990s. The course is a private 18 that stretches close to 6,900 yards, and it was renovated in the mid-1990s. From 2007 to 2010 it hosted the Kansas City Championship on what was then the Nationwide Tour, so it has held up under tournament play.

Beyond golf, the club has a practice range, a junior Olympic size pool, a fitness center and four dining venues, and it runs golf leagues, junior golf, swim and fitness programs. The membership is largely Leawood and south Overland Park families in Blue Valley schools who want a full club a few minutes from home without the profile of Hallbrook or the drive to the Mission Hills clubs. It has historically been one of the more accessible private clubs in south Johnson County, which makes it a common first club for relocating families.
